Loughborough Training Focus Camps Weekend Summary

This weekend running camp is designed for competitive runners of all abilities; If you love running & want to improve then this is for you.

Across two days of high-performance coaching and athlete education, you will learn from three industry-leading experts and leave with the knowledge and inspiration to improve your running.

Coach James Thie will lead the camp and will be joined by Exercise Physiologist Dr Barry Fudge on Saturday and Strength & Conditioning coach Dr Richard Blagrove on Sunday.

James will introduce you to the high-performance training methods of elite runners and explain how you can utilise these in your own training for improved efficiency and faster running. Barry Fudge will explain the science and practical implications behind elite running performance and show you how that can be utilised by runners of all levels. Richard Blagrove will teach both the why and the how for Strength and Conditioning in runners.

You will be lead through whole group seminar sessions, small group practical & theoretical workshops and running sessions under the watchful eye of our expert team.

It’s an action-packed weekend full of high quality, engaging content. There will also be time to relax and recover between training with planned downtime and social sessions.

Two days, three world-class sports science practitioners, and a great opportunity to improve your running.

What to Expect

Before the Camp Begins

Comprehensive Pre Camp Customer Support.

Our team are on hand to help you with everything you need and to answer all your questions in advance of the camp before and after you have booked your place.

Before you arrive you will receive comprehensive pre-camp information with everything you need to prepare for the weekend ahead. This will include additional information on the camp itinerary and the running sessions which will be part of the weekend in order that you can plan in advance and know what you need to bring along. 

Travel as far as Loughborough University is your responsibility, although we can of course help and advise on this, so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. 

Saturday

Arrival 08:45 – 09:00

Upon arrival, our team will be on hand to welcome you to the Elite Athlete Hotel, your home for the weekend.

The camp will start with a brief introduction meeting where you will be introduced to the team, and then we will be straight into the action.

Your team for today is lead is Coach James Thie and Exercise Physiologist Dr Barry Fudge. 

Across the day we will spend time in both whole group seminars and small group breakouts which may be practical or classroom-based. Coaches James and Callum will also lead you through an interval-based running session. 

It is a busy day, but rest periods will be built into the schedule.

After our evening meal, we will move to the athlete lounge for a more relaxed Q&A and expert panel discussion, before spending the rest of the evening socialising in the athlete lounge. 

Sunday

Sunday is another busy day and will start early with coffee and snack before we head out for a run. After breakfast, we will be joined by Rich Blagrove, one of the worlds eminent Strength & Conditioning experts for runners. 

The rest of the day will follow a similar format to Saturday with seminars and small group workshops led by James and Rich. After lunch, James will then interview Rich in a Q&A style session on the topic of Strength & Conditioning for runners and there will be an opportunity for guests to add their own questions direct to Rich & James. 

James will conclude the camp with a final presentation summarising the key learning outcomes from the weekend and answering your final questions. 

The camp will close around 16:30

Our venue is the Elite Athlete Centre which sits in the heart of Loughborough’s world-class sporting facilities, overlooking the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Centre and Seb Coe High Performance Centre (Hipac); Both venues we will use for our own training sessions during the weekend.

Your Safety & Covid-19

Your safety during the weekend is paramount and we have put in place a comprehensive safety policy to ensure that this event is Covid secure and will comply with all local and national regulations.

These will be constantly updated as the situation changes and evolves as we approach the camp. All guests will be sent details of our comprehensive Covid Policy in advance of attendance at the camp.

Please be aware that if Covid restrictions make the camp unviable you will have the choice of a full transfer of all money paid or a 100% refund. See our T&C policy for additional details.
